December 25: Glory to God in the Highest
Glory to God in the HighestLuke 2:8-11, “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, and angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”
Jesus came to earth to be our Saviour. He came to deliver us from sin, Satan’s kingdom of darkness, death, fear, and the ungodly world system. Jesus came to restore us to His Father and re-establish Kingdom dominion. The shepherds who were ordinary, common men, were picked by the Father because Jesus would come as a humble Shepherd to His people to restore His glory to them. He would walk among them and reveal His Father’s love, peace, and goodwill to all who would receive it. His miracles revealed His goodwill towards a broken humanity. Wherever He walked the glory was released and lives were changed. In John 17:22 Jesus said, “And the glory You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:” Oneness and unity can only come when we are saved and walk in His glory. The glory we are to carry will bring us back into unity with the Father and with one another. When God made mankind, He crowned him with glory and honour according to Ps. 8:6. We at our New Birth are crowned with His glory. The word crowned means to be encompassed like a circle. The glory of God was given to man in the garden as his clothing. He was covered with a glorious radiance that made him weighty. When man sinned he lost this glorious covering but when Jesus Christ was born, the glory of God came down again. When Jesus died on the cross, He took our shame and gave us His righteousness and restored the glory of God to us. That glory is powerful and is able to make us one according to John 17:22.
Our unity and love is meant to reveal the Father to the world. The Father so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. It is through us that “peace and goodwill” are extended. The angels declared to the shepherds “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Jesus Christ restored the glory to us and He restored dominion to us. Our focus at Christmas is on the birth of Christ but the Father’s focus is on a people who will be birthed in the earth, that are willing to walk in the glory of His presence. The weight of His presence upon us must extend peace and goodwill to those who are without a Saviour. HE IS THE ONLY GIFT THEY NEED! May His Glory radiate through us.
